A tragic auto accident on the turnpike near Yeehaw Junction resulted in the death of one man, and 7 others injured including 5 children. It was a one car accident. According to the FHP none of the passengers in the vehicle were wearing seatbelts. The SUV was headed north on the Turnpike, near mile marker 189, when it went in the center median. The SUV then rolled over twice. All nine of the occupants were ejected onto the road.

Although not all car accidents can be prevented, many injuries can be if seat belts are used.
