Fiery Car Crash Claims Lives of 5 High School Grads

Once again a fatal auto accident has claimed the lives of 5 young teens. Our hearts go out to the grieving family and friends of Fairport, NY, a suburb of Rochester, for the tragic loss of these recent high school graduates.

The five teenage girls were on their way to the family camp of one of the victims. When the Chevy Blazer they were in passed another vehicle, it swerved back across the two-lane highway and struck a tractor-trailer and caught fire. Four of their friends were following in another vehicle but were not involved in the accident.

A similar incident in Florida recently killed 3 teens when their vehicle was in car crash, again involving a semi-tractor. This senseless loss lives of our young people is a tragedy. What can a parent do to instill good driving skills for our teens to prevent such tragedies? In an effort to reduce the number of teen fatalities, The National Safety Council has been on a mission to help families beat the odds of their teens becoming one of the statistics.

Traffic crashes are the leading cause of teen fatalities, accounting for 44% of teen deaths in the U.S. The National Safety Council sees the issue as a national crisis. We have segmented the problem into three distinct areas, and have adopted strategies to address each of them: Reduce teen drivers' exposure to risk; Modify risky driving behavior; and Develop driver skills and experience
