Mark V. Rosenker, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Acting Chairman, kicked off National Teen Driver Safety Week with the following statement:

"Highway crashes involving young drivers will remain a
serious and persistent problem unless concrete and
comprehensive steps are taken," said Rosenker. "Our young
people are this Nation's most valuable resource and too many
of them are being killed and injured."

The theme for this year's NTSB Teenage Driver Safety Week," Passengers", will focus the attention on Graduated License Requirement (GDL) Programs implemented by many states and the limits placed on the number of passengers allowed to ride with inexperienced drivers. Investigators found a direct correlation between the number of teenage passengers riding with teenage drivers and the increased risk of teenage car crashes.

The U.S. Congress began Teenage Driver Safety Week last year in an effort to reduce the number of teenage deaths and injuries resulting from teenage driver auto accidents.
