The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall for approximately 1 million Easy-Bake Ovens. This defective product recall comes after the February repair campaign failed to prevent injuries.

Hasbro, Inc., the maker of the Easy-Bake Oven, has reported to the CPSC that repairs suggested in February which were supposed to prevent children from getting their hands or fingers caught in the oven has failed. Since February, 249 kids have had their fingers or hands stuck in the oven. Seventy-seven of the them were burned, some with second and third degree burns, and one was burned so badly that part of a finger had to be removed. Most states have product liability laws to protect minors hurt by defective products.

The child-size oven resembles an adult, full-size stove, but is purple and pink. The problem toy was sold at Toys"R" Us, Wal-Mart, Target, and KB Toys, and other outlets between May 2006 and July 2007. Earlier models are not involved in this recall. Consumers should take the ovens away from children immediately and contact Hasbro for a replacement product.
