US Men Need to Clean Up Their Act

A study released by the American Society for Microbology and the Soap and Detergent Association reveals the number of men in the US who was their hands after using the restroom has dropped 9%- from 75% in 2005 to 66% in 2007. The number of women observed washing their hands was 88%, down 2 % from 2005. While this may be the subject of humor around the water cooler this week, the CDC considers this no laughing matter.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the single most important thing we can all do to keep from getting infectious diseases and spreading them to others is to clean our hands.

Most colds, flus and foodborne illnesses are spread from poor hygiene, mostly a lack of handwashing. It is also a requirement of all restaurant and retail employees but one that is often not followed which can result in what we commonly call food poisoning.

But it's not just the restaurant workers - we all need to do our part. So please, everyone, helps us all stay safe and healthy this coming flu season by washing your hands!
