It's time to get your flu shot. Flu season starts in October and comes to a peak in January and February. Once you receive your flu shot it takes two weeks from the time of the vaccination to obtain protection from the influenza virus. So, the sooner you get your flu shot, the sooner you will be protected.

Some physicians think that if you don't get vaccinated for the flu by November then its too late - BUT - other physicians disagree and say it is almost never too late to vaccinate. The Centers for Disease Control and Precvention reports that October and November are the best months to get your vaccination. Since the flu season can last many months, it still pays to get vaccinated even if you miss the recommended two month window.

A flu shot is a simple way to to stay healthy. The CDC recommends the following individuals get vaccinated every year:
*Children between 6 mos and 5 years
*Healthcare workers (such as doctors, nurses, aides etc)
*Pregnant women
*People in nursing homes
*People with chronic health conditions
*People over age 50
*Caregivers of young children

So protect you and your family - a flu shot is an easy way to care for your health!
