The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) released its report for the year 2006, and at least 555 people were killed in all-terrain vehicle accidents. More than 100 of these were children and officials expect that number to increase as they continue to obtain information from hospitals across the nation.

In addition, the report estimated another 146,000 people were treated in emergency rooms for ATV-related injuries, at least one-fourth of these being children.

The rising popularity of all-terrain vehicles for both work and play has unfortunately also led to an increase in the number of accidents associated with those vehicles. Consumer groups and parents who have lost children in crashes have complained for years about the safety of the popular off-road vehicles. Other serious injuries resulting from all-terrain vehicle accidents are such things as traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries.
