Many tourists traveling in and out of Florida buy travel, or trip, insurance as a way of protecting themselves from cancelled trips, but more importantly, to cover the cost of travel-related illness or injury while out of state or out of the country.

Alex Sink, Florida's Chief Financial Officer, has revealed an investigation into three Florida travel agencies that have been selling trip insurance from a Colorado insurance company that went out of business two months ago.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, there are seven Prime Travel Protections Services, Inc. outstanding claims ranging from $1,000 to $30,000, the largest of which was to cover the cost of a tourist who had a heart attack aboard a cruise ship and had to be airlifted back to shore.

If you have future travel plans and expect to purchase trip insurance, make certain that you do your homework and go with only a reputable travel insurance agency.
