A woman, fishing on Long Island Sound, when a 324-foottanker barge crashed with her bot, died after she was taken off life support.

The woman, 47, of the Bronx was in a coma at St. Francis Hospital since the accident on June 10. Visiting from Rhode Island, she was fishing in a 24-foot boat off Sands Point when the accident occurred.

Authorities had released very few details about the accident, which took place near the Execution Rocks lighthouse, known as a popular fishing spot.

Officials with the U.S. Coast Guard and Nassau Police Marine Bureau said no new details were available yesterday. A police spokesman said Marine Bureau officials expect to complete an investigation this week. The Coast Guard has said it received conflicting accounts of the accident, but would not specify how the accounts differed.

The family has hired a lawyer and plans to purse lawsuits against the owners of the barge and its tugboat.

"This was so preventable. You can't move something that large without watching where you're going," said Sullivan. He said his investigation is also seeking to determine why the boat couldn't get out of the way of the barge in time.
