Whole Peanut Recall Adds More Items to FDA Recall List

The FDA has reported that the salmonella outbreak previously thought to involve only bulk peanut butter and peanut paste from a plant in Georgia has now been expanded to include whole peanuts. Most of the peanut product recalls issued by the FDA today have been for products containing whole peanuts, such as breakfast bars, trail mix, and dry and honey roasted peanuts. The ever-expanding list of recalls can be found on the FDA's website.

As the recall list continues to grow each day, according to CBS news, the Department of Justice has opened a criminal investigation to determine if there are any criminal violations associated with the contamination. According to FDA documents, The Peanut Corp. of America, Blakely, GA, knew of on least 12 occasions there was the presence of salmonella in the plant just since 2007.
Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Sandy Grinnell

Peanut Butter Recalls List of Recalled Products

We have been asked to provide a list of the products that have been recalled due to the peanut butter Salmonella infection. Sadly, the list is too long to print here but it is available from the CDC. Check the CDC website at: http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/salmonellatyph.html#products

Peanut Butter Salmonella Outbreak Discovered in Kellogg Crackers

The salmonella contamination that was reported last week by the FDA has now been found in a package of Kellogg's brand Austin Quality Foods Toasty Crackers with Peanut Butter.

Peanut paste and peanut butter is suspected to be the source of a salmonella outbreak that is responsible for 6 deaths, hospitalization of at least 90, and another 470 related illnesses.

While federal officials believe most peanut butter sold in jars at grocery stores is safe, the FDA is recommending that consumers refrain from eating cookies, cakes, ice cream and now apparently peanut butter crackers. You can find a complete list of the brands on the FDA's website.

This current outbreak is just one of a long list of salmonella food contaminations reports from the FDA and CDC in the past 12 months. Previously, there was concerns of contamination in pot pies, pet food, spinach, and cantalopes, just to name a few.
